I have the last night
probably a serious dream
It grew in my garden
a Rosmarien tree.
The garden was a church yard
the flower bed a grave,.
and of the green tree
fell off Crown and flowers.
I would collect the flowers
in one goldnen jug,
He struck me out of the hands,
that he was in pieces.
Out of it I saw therein beads
and Tröpflein rose-red:
What might the dream mean?
Oh dear, you're dead?

wohl einen schweren Traum,
es wuchs in meinem Garten
ein Rosmarienbaum.
Ein Kirchhof war der Garten,
das Blumenbeet ein Grab,
und von dem grünen Baume
fiel Kron und Blüte ab.
Die Blüten tät ich sammeln
in einem goldnen Krug,
der fiel mir aus den Händen,
daß er in Stücke schlug.
Draus sah ich Perlen rinnen
und Tröpflein rosenrot:
Was mag der Traum bedeuten?
Ach Liebster, bist du tot?
